What Are The Differences between Brass And Bronze Materials in Lead Screw Nuts?

Publish Time: 2023-04-26     Origin: Site

Brass lead screw nut is an alloy of copper and zinc, while bronze lead nut is an alloy composed primarily of copper, most often combined with tin,but sometimes with other metals.

Brass lead screw nut is more malleable than zinc or copper. It has a low melting point(900 degrees Celsius)and flows during melting, making it easy to cast in molds. The combination of iron, aluminum, silicon and manganese gives brass screw nut wear and corrosion resistance.

Bronze lead screw nut is hard and brittle. It melts at 950 degrees Celsius, but this depends on the amount of tin present in the alloy.Bronze screw nut is more resistant to corrosion(especially seawater corrosion)and metal fatigue than steel, and also conducts heat and electricity better than most steels.

Brass and bronze simple comparison table

Brass

Bronze

Properties

Ductility is higher than zinc or copper.Low melting point(900°C);it flows when it melts. The combination of iron, aluminum, silicon and manganese makes brass resistant to corrosion.Stress cracking occurs when exposed to ammonia. Not as strong as steel.

It's hard and crunchy. The melting temperature is 950 degrees Celsius, but depends on the tin content.Bronze is more resistant to corrosion(especially seawater corrosion)and metal fatigue than steel, and also conducts heat and electricity better than most steels.

Composition

Brass is any alloy of copper and zinc.

Bronze is a metal alloy composed primarily of copper, usually with tin as the main additive, but sometimes with other elements such as phosphorus, manganese, aluminum or silicon.

Thermal conductivity

24 W/m-K

120 W/m-K

Color

Muted yellow

Reddish brown.

Application

Decorate;low friction applications(locks, gears, doorhandles, ammunition,valves);plumbing/electronics;an instrument used for acoustic properties; zippers and important places to remove sparks(accessories and tools around explosive gas).

Used in boat and ship fittings, propellers and submersible bearings because of resistance to salt water corrosion.Widely used in casting bronze sculpture;bearings, clamps, electrical connectors and springs;for high quality bells and cymbals.
